Nicole,

Norethindrone acetate, which is what I'm on, is basically birth control...at a much higher dose. I take in two pills a day the equivalent of thirty birth control pills. Most birth control has norethindrone and ethinyl estradiol, it's estrogen counterpart. This is the first thing that actually worked for me. I tried regular bcp's, the depo shot, Mirena IUD (wouldn't recommend that to anyone...it was worse than the pain I had before!), and the patch before this. I call it "menopause in a bottle," because that's basically what it is. Talk soon!
