Re: When will the gas from the lap go away? From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri May 20 11:59:16 2005
It's not that kind of gas, Chris. ;-) The CO2 gas that is used will lodge itself in your shoulders and can take a few days to be absorbed. Ice packs help. Try not to remain in one position for too long as movement will help oxygenate the blood and speed up the absorption rate - walk, walk, walk. Some surgeons use warmed gas or even liquid to distend the abdomen for surgery and the patients then don't get the horrible pain from it later. Other's still use the same old method they've always used and just take the stance that "the pain will go away". Hope it is gone by now. If not then call your doctor because it shouldn't take more than 3 or 4 days tops and if it's causing constant pain by the 3rd or 4th day then the surgeon should know.
