Ditto what Rachel said plus, the day before surgery, and only the day before surgery, you might want to eat "light" meaning, eat the sorts of foods that you would eat if you were just recovering from a stomach bug. Chicken Noodle soup (or any NON-cream soup that you like) with fibre crackers (like WASA bread, Kavli, etc.) tossed salad, easy on the cream dressing, and broiled chicken. Eat small frequent meals so you don't get too hungry and you keep yourself 'nutritioned' with easily digested foods. This is to help you avoid the nausea that sometimes comes with anesthesia. Leafy greens, spinach and leaf lettuce particularly, will help keep your bowels a little looser so you don't get constipated. Many doctors want you to use an enema the night before with nothing but water after a certain hour.

This is especially good if you are experiencing anxiety which can have one of two affects on your bowel... constipation or diarrhea.

Good luck and try to relax and not stress out.
