Re: can anyone help me figure out whats going on in my body? From: Kristy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon May 9 17:49:30 2005
My mother told me a story about something that happened when I was a girl that I thought you might find this interesting. She weighed about 200 pounds in around 1975 and at that time she decided to see a chiropractor (can't remember what for now) and when the dr was examining her he asked her if she had ever been athletic in her life. Mom said yes (she used to play volleyball, basketball and such in High School) and she asked him why. He told her that he could feel the muscles as being very firm still from her days when she was athletic, and this was in spite of her weight at that time. My point is that it is possible for athletic muscles to still be in existence even after having stopped sports for a while and then to later get fat. Anon, I think you are being too hard on Kristen. She knows her limitations as to what she can and can't do as I said before, for some people even 5 minutes of exercise is too hard especially for those that also have fibro. When dealing with chronic illness it is sometimes hard to control stress no matter what you do. She's grieving right now and part of grieving can mean asking, "Why me?". Everyone goes thru each phase of grief at their own pace. She's not acting like a brat just b/c she didn't want to agree with the information you gave her. She has a right to choose what help she will accept or won't accept just like everyone else that asks for help. Also, no diet is practically perfect as far as the big name diets and that includes The South Beach Diet. It doesn't work for everyone just like Atkins doesn't work for everyone. The best way to control weight is to eat things in moderation.
