Re: Going in for 2nd lap (Found a better dr)From: Alta (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat Apr 30 08:33:11 2005
The problem you run into is every surgery leaves scaring which could effect fertility. The scaring could crimp tubes or form around your ovaries preventing them from fertilizing. I don't know if this will be of much help but, many years ago when I had my first lap we tried for a child. My doctor put me on lupron for 6 months and then gave us the go ahead. We tried for 9 months without sucess. He then said there was nothing more he could do and told us to move to IVF. We did and our first attempt gave us our daughter. Since then I have had two more laps. One removed my tubes and ovary (hydros and cyst). The second supposedly to remove my left ovary because of cyst and adhesions. After experiencing much pain and two doctors later, they found my ovary had regenerated and is functioning. I am meeting up with a new doctor May 9th who specializes in Endo and Infertility. I have talked with him via e-mail about my chances of success through IVF and he is confident (because of my history) that I can become pregnant. The only problem that could present it self is that I will be 41 shortly. We will deal with the Endo then assess IVF. I don't hold much hope of IVF only because of my age. Moral of this story? If both you and your partners fertility work up are good, you do have a shot. After my first we had a 50-50 shot. Dr. said at that time even if we do another lap we still had a 50-50 shot. Our only problem was age. (We left this doctor because we moved to a different state.)
