Bear with me - I just need to vent for a minute.From: Sara' (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Apr 29 11:56:34 2005
Hi Ladies, I hope everyone is doing okay.I was looking at Dr.C.Y. Yiu's website this morning and it made me angry. His upfront fee for surgery is substantial (& not covered by insurance at the N.Y. office)in addition to a couple hundred bucks for the office visit fee. If you have no insurance, the upfront fee is twice as much. Not counting travel/ lodging etc.(I didn't list amounts because I don't know if that would be against the rules on the forum - you can check it out for yourself). Don't get me wrong, I know you can't put a pricetag on good medical treatment but something just seems ethically wrong with this to me.It just seems wrong to have to go into debt, refinance your house, or use up all of your personal savings for medical treatment.I don't know exactly how it works with Drs. Albee & Redwine, but I would expect the grand total after travel/ lodging & whatever else would get to be pretty expensive.I don't begrudge anyone seeing these Doctors, and I know Drs. don't get the compensation they should from the insurance companies but it just feels wrong.I'm sorry & I hope I haven't offended anyone, but it just feels like with this disease you are always forced to go to extremes, whether it be financial, medical,or emotional. Thanks for listening, Sara'
