No, they don't put you under for a leep, it is done under local anasthetic in the doctor's office. It takes a couple of hours for the cramping to stop. There is not a lot of pain. They hook you up to a machine and use a tool to remove the damaged portion of your cervix. It takes less than 30 minutes. I am assuming that you had dysplasia, or precancerous cells, on your cervix caused by one of the HPV strains that they consider to be "dangerous" because if left untreated it can turn to cancer. Of course that takes years to occur. Don't worry, it is a pretty harmless procedure and once they remove the "pre-cancerous" cells, you probably won't ever have another worry again. You will just need to make sure you get a pap every 12 months. Your doctor will probably do another pap in a couple of months to make sure s/he got everything. Compared to the pain of endo, this will be a breeze. You will probably want someone there with you to drive you home, it hurts a bit to walk afterwards. You will also spot for a while, so bring some pads. No tampons for quite a while and no sex, either.

God Bless!!
