This is all scary, even if things go well. Does it ever stop? >Anyone ever have this done? How much does it hurt to have a biopsy of >the cervix? 97% of the time, pre cancerous cells are caused by HPV which is an STD. HPV causes genital warts and dysplasia, depending on which strain you have. Obviously you have the strain that causes dysplasia (pre-cancerous cells). It is the most common STD. Men don't usually know that they are infected with it. Usually, the biopsy is to confirm that HPV is the cause, which it likely is. If the biopsy didn't get all of the bad cells, they may have to do another procedure, like a LEEP. Both are done in the office and cause minimal pain. There is some spotting afterward, and some cramping. You probably won't feel like doing anything for the rest of the day. Bring a pad, so you don't ruin your panties.
