Re: Can it come back?

Endo can definitely come back at any time, pills or no pills so your doctor is misinformed if he thinks otherwise. I am a prime example. I have been on birth control for years and still have many issues with endo. Even taking them continuously over the last three years hasn't done much. Since I have severe periods, it is nice to not have them every month, but taking the pills has not made the endo go away. It may help it some but it is not a cure. There is no cure for endo. I think the pills control it somewhat because they are a steady stream of hormones, and low in estrogen.

I have had three laps, so I know it is not fun to have them and miss work. A lap gives me some relief for awhile but not long. Right now I am averaging a lap every three years, but could probably have them sooner. Just had the third last summer and followed it with Lupron. Only been off the Lupron for two months and back on my pills and I am already feeling and seeing subtle signs of the endo returning. Also a little endo doesn't mean no pain or other issues. Depending on where the adhesions and scarring is located can affect how much pain you have. I have a low Stage 3 but have severe pain. My doc says that some women have little endo and lots of problems, and some women have lots of endo and relatively no problems. Just one more thing that makes it a hard disease to understand.

Hope this helps a little. If your doctor is not listening to you or wants to insist it could not come back due to birth control, find another doctor. After going through several myself, I finally found a great one who always listens and understands. It is amazing how much better I feel knowing my doctor is informed and concerned.

Hang in there! Amy Meyer
