Re: Lupron seems so wrong...From: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Mar 30 11:43:00 2005
Hi Lori! I just wanted to share a positive Lupron story. I am one of the lucky ones who gets tremendous relief from Lupron. I have done it twice, just finished a month or so ago, and for me, it gets rid of my endo pain completely while I am on it. The first time I did it in 2001 I stayed pain free for a year and then it was another year after that before the endo got extremely bad again. This time I am hoping for the same. I do not experience too many side effects either. (In fact, the side effects were even less this second time) I do get hot flashes and night sweats, but nothing tramautic, just more annoying than anything. I occasionally have a mood swing, much like a bad day of PMS, but again, nothing severe and not on a regular basis. It does pretty much kill my sex drive though. So far, I have not seemed to have any long term side effects either. I also lose weight while on it. Within a week or two of my first shot, I drop 10 pounds. I mostly think this is water weight though. My birth control tends to make me bloat and I think being off the pills while on the shots gets rid of the excess water retention. I also suffer from depression and take anti-depressants but it was recommended by my OB/Gyn to stop my anti-depressants while on Lupron. There is a chance that the combination can make the depression worse. If you consider doing the Lupron, make sure you ask your doc about this just to be safe. All I can tell you is do your own research and make a decision for you. It took me two years to work up the nerve to try it. Everyone reacts so differently so it is hard to know how your own body will handle it. If you want to talk more about it, feel free to email me privately. Good luck in your decision. And just as an FYI: If you search the forum archives, you can find lots of posts about Lupron, both good and bad. Hugs! Amy Meyer
