Re: how do get to be okay with having a hysto

I had a complete hysterectomy 11 yrs ago and i agree a complete is the way to go, they take just one thing they end up going back for the rest at a later date and who needs that. I have to say though I have been on HRT since my hysto and did the pills and the last was the patch and for me the patch is the way to go. I have not had any problems with my patch, it gives off the hormones that i need all through the day and night unlike the pill form of HRT did, but the was just my experience, every woman is different. I myself swear by the patch because it has worked so well for me. So to regard the patch as not being "reliable" is not fair, being that each woman reacts different to every medication. i also love the fact that i dont have to take a pill every day, this is much easier, every 7th day i throw on a new patch and boom thats it for my medicine for the week. it doesnt get much easier than that. it took a few years for me to find the right HRT for me as it will for Nikkie. She may do better on pill form of HRT, she may do better on a patch, thats something that is going to take time to figure out. Laurie I am sure you remember all the misery you went through finding just the right form of HRT for you. The hot flashes alone was enough to make me a mad woman, i bet you remember that huh? I dont wish that on anyone, that is miserable. I remember wanting to crawl out of my skin and jumping into ice water. Laurie I am not knocking the pill form of HRT at all, I just want to let this lady know that finding the right HRT for her is going to be a process as it was for you and for me and million of other women. Things like that take time to figure out what is best for each woman and helping women to understand the benefit of each form of HRT is important. I took estrace and didnt do so well on it myself, i still had bad hot flashes and I wanted so much for Estrace to work for me since it is more of a human form of HRT than most HRT's are. Nikki I wish you peace in your decision on having a hysterectomy and wish you a easy recovery after if you do decide to have it done. Brace yourself for the severe changes that you will go through afterwards too. It will be a long road and many changes to adjust to. And you are doing the right thing by seeking information before you have the surgery after all it is a life changing event for a woman. good luck and may you find peace in what ever you decide.
