Re: adenomyosis

I was diagnosed with Adenomyosis last year upon Hysterectomy. I am 29 years of age with a long standing history of Endometriosis and irregular bleeding. I was blessed to have two beautiful children before I endured my Hysterectomy. From what I understand there are no true treatments for Adeno with the exception of removal of the uterus. There are options, but they are in many cases less helpful than even the limited ones that are used for Endo. It was a huge decision to have the surgery, but for me it had come to a point where I knew in my heart I wanted a better quality of life for myself and my children. I had struggled so much to become pregnant through years of infertility and I wanted to be able to care for my children the way that I had hoped, fully and completely. As sick as I was I could not be the Mom or the Wife that I wanted to be, and thus I made the very difficult decision. Looking back I do not regret it, and my recovery was frought with complications. Despite all of this, I am grateful that I had the surgery and that it gave me a new beginning. In terms of medical treatment and Specialists I know only of a very good clinic in Vancouver, British Columbia through UBC and Vancouver Hospital. The UBC Centre for Reproductive Health has Specialists in Endometriosis and related conditions. I know that it is a distance from where you are and don't know what you may feel about that, but thought I would offer it up any way. I was told not to try the Hysterosalpingogram as it would be especially painful and not likely to yield any further information of value. I trust it is a personal and professional decision of your own physician though. In terms of MRI and CT I have heard that they offer a view of soft tissue and may help in confirmation of Adeno. I have also read that sometimes transvaginal ultrasound helps identify Adeno. I am so grateful that I had a skilled and compassionate surgeon to help me through, as the decision and the journey are not easy...but not impossible to overcome either. I wish you the very best.
