hello Alexis, I was on the depo shot for 2 yrs and I didn't really experience any side effects while on it. When I got off of it though I got my period along with cramps for about 4 months. I would speak to your doctor about them. If your gonna switch to another birth control method I have found that the patches worked best. Alot of people would disagree with me but it's just my opinion.
