Pain...lots of pain?From: Dani (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun Feb 27 15:45:26 2005
I'm very confused and I don't know what to ask so I'm just going to start here. I have an appointment to see my doctor in a few weeks but I'd like to learn what I can beforehand. I should start by saying my mother had endometriosis and had a hysterectomy because of it in her mid-twenties. Ever since I began menstruating it has been a painful experience. I also have always bled a whole lot. Sometimes there is so much bleeding it is as steady a flow as urine. I have pelvic cramping even when my period is not on and this has gotten worse over the years. 5 or 6 years ago (in my late teens) I had an ultrasound that showed small fibroids but that's it. Things may have changed now. My main concern at the moment is the fact that my vagina is EXTREMELY sensitive. So sensitive I cannot use tampons and never have been been able to use them, no matter how small. I have never had sexual intercourse. I know this will sound terrible but I am 23 and have never had a pap smear or a pelvic exam. I tried when I was 19 and the NP could not get even the tiniest speculum in more than an inch without causing me extreme amounts of pain. It was unbearable and I tried to take it and just couldn't. I don't know why this area is so sensitive and hurts so much and I guess I never really asked. I fully intend to discuss this with my doctor and get answers and treatment if available, but could this have anything to do with endometriosis at all? I just want to know as much as I can.
