Re: Hystorectomy due to Endo

Melisa and ladies, I am also a 30 year old with 2 children ages 4 & 6. I was diaganosed with endo and ademo by way of a lap on Oct 1, 2004. My doc and I decided on a hysterectomy. My husband and I were already decided on not having any more children so this seemed like the logical step. My hysterectomy took place on Dec 8, 2004. I had my cervix and uterus removed. I kept both my ovaries due to heart disease (cannot do HRT or BC). On Dec 9, 2004 I had to have emergency surgery to remove my right ovary due to internal bleeding (long story). No problem because my left ovary was still functioning. It was a long, long, recovery! I feel it was definitely worth it. I feel great now. Since I kept one ovary I don't experience any menopausal symptoms and to top it off I will never have a period again!!!! I still experience minor menstral symptoms when I would normally have a period but it's mainly just moodiness(no cramps!!). I know that by keeping one ovary I might not get rid of the endo but it's gone for now. If I have any problems down the road I can always have them go in and remove the left ovary. I just wanted to avoid meno as long as I can. I had an abdominal incision (about 4 inches long). You can also have this done vaginally. I opted not too because it's easier for the doc to look for more endo and remove it while he's in there if it's done abdominally. They can also get a better look at your other organs. Most of my pain was related to the ademo. I was also diaganosed with IBS, but it's gone now too. For anyone considering a hysterectomy I recommend this website http://www.hystersisters.com It was a lifesaver for me. You can talk to girls who've had one and also girls who are going to have one. The recovery is very difficult, pain meds are a must if you want to make it through it all. At first I wasn't sure if it was worth it but now that I'm feeling normal again I feel that it definitely was. If any of you have any questions feel free to ask. Hope this helps. Tracy
