Re: The H word...

I can sure sympathize with your situation. I too was 35 when I had my full abdominal hysterectomy after years of suffering with endo. I struggled with the same decision. You have to go with your gut feelings and I don't want to sway you one way or another, but for me, it was a good decision. In the previous laps over the years, only endo that could be seen was lasered, not excised, and when I finally gave in to the pain by having a hyst, my bladder was stuck to my uterus in one big endo sheet. He had to shave the two apart. That was not seen in the laps and would have never been found unless I had an open surgery.

It took a good 6 weeks to get back to feeling close to normal. I believe I went back to work after 3 weeks. It took a few months to get my strength back to normal. It took a while to get a sex drive back, but because the pain was gone, it was really better. We didn't worry about me hurting.

I did take ERT immediately and after a few months of getting that regulated, I was fine. I did gain some weight, so you really need to pay attention to that. I felt better then I had in years. However, after 4 years, the pain returned in a variety of ways and I had another lap. Endo was found. I am now seeking the advice of an endo specialist. I am scheduled for another, and hopefully final surgery with the specialist.

Knowing what I know now, I would will still have the hyst, but I would see a specialist that does excision. I know it still isn't full proof, but it sure helps to reduce the odds of endo returning.

I hope this helps.
