Jan 11, 2005 I'm 32 and I had a hystorectomy at 28 due to endometriosis. I have one ovary left, and normal levels of estrogen which has since continued to often cause me pelvic cramps and sharp pains. My gyno prescribed Lurpon for this and I was given 3 shots with my 3rd at the end of April 2004. I've not worked since. (This was my 2nd set of 3 monthly shots - first set 1 1/2 years ago with no noticeable side effects and the endo pain retreated for almost 1 1/2 years). I used to work in a very busy, multitasking office as office manager. The first shot in this set didn't seem to affect me much, the second did affect my concentration (or lack of it) and I was a little different of a person but I didn't really attribute it to the Lupron, just thought it was me going thru an age phase. Then within 2 or 3 hours of receiving my 3rd shot on Apr 28, I knew something was very wrong. I started doing very out of character things, got lost going to work (of 10 years being at the current address) 2 days later after having a total character crash and my brain basically started to feel like I became totally engulfed in a thick fog. This "fog" is very much still here. It's less now but it's been almost 9 months. Since April,I've been seen by 2 regular doctors, a neurologist, and a psychiatrist who prescribed me Effexor starting about 6 months ago. My brain does seem to be working faster now and I cannot agree with you both more on the difficulty concentrating, nervous, jittery, anxious, emotional extremes, very tense muscles and I am definately NOT as smart (fast). I'm much slower than I used to be even still. I also have memory lapses (forgetting the past 15 minutes of the movie I'm watching completely), a problem especially with short term memory (eg. what did I go upstairs for?). I get mixed up easily, have very vivid dreams but I have problems getting and staying asleep. I have problems following longer stories, either being told to me, watching, hearing or reading them and have a really tough time concentrating. My physical balance is off and I get vertigo feelings when moving around quickly like being a passenger in a car but this goes away if I shut my eyes. I have almost no tolerance for extreme stress (I shut down) and my life is now just much simpler. It has to be. My bones ache now and I have a lot less energy in a day than before lupron. Sleep is mostly what I do, unfortunately, but I sometimes just don't have the energy. Part of this is probably cause I also am in constant battle with my appetite and a total lack of it. Again, some these symptoms are lessening over time and the effexor definitely keeps me more emotionally stable but only time seems to have helped any of my other side effects. Like most antidepressants, it's important that I take the correct number of pills a day (yuck) and that I don't miss any or I'm a mess. Luckily, (like I need more problems) I didn't and don't have any menopause symptoms like hot flashes from lupron likely because the gynocologist who prescribed the lupron also prescribed a small dose of estrogen for the 3-4 months the Lupron was to be in my system. Either Lupron's still in my system or it's changed some chemical balance (my perception of this) that's affected my brain over a long term. I guess I don't have to say that I don't recommend Lupron to anyone, ever. If you've used it and it worked for you without the side effects that didn't make it worth it at all to me, that's great, less pain is good. I've searched the web and read a bunch of info on endometriosis and Lupron and it's side effects including a couple other forums where Lupron victims have spoken about so many of the symptoms we've listed but I have not found anywhere that has explained what exactly Lupron does to our bodies especially our nervous system and brain chemicals - not what the company who makes it (TAP Pharmaceuticals I think) says it does or should do but what it REALLY does. Then maybe we can figure out how to counteract it's serious side effects. Maybe if anyone could post some of the clinical trials they find on the web for Lupron, that would be helpful. Also, I've found very few women who've posted what they found helped minimize their side effects (other than you two who've talked about anti-depressants). Is this because no one has found anything that works other than wait it out? How long should we wait?I've asked my psychiatrist these very questions and will see what he's found in his "literature research". He doesn't seem to have much experience with Lupron or victims of it but I'm hoping with his knowledge of the brain and it's specific chemicals and their interactions, he'll be able to decipher some of the technical info and have the info more available to him than regular patients like me. I will post here again if I find out anything more, regardless of whether the original posters revisit here, just in case someone else with lupron questions or experience happens across this page. I praise all those who support victims of lupron through their challenge and I wish all those who suffer a better day tomorrow.
