Some Hope for all?From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Dec 23 16:03:46 2004
Hello to all... it has been a few months since I have been on this forum and so much has happened. To keep it short: I had a hysterectomy and am recovering (post-op day 8.) My point of this post is not to give false hope for anyone... but I have learned such a valuable lesson in the 2 days prior to my surgery that I have to share. I have been deeling with endo for 7 years...my story reads just like many of yours... laps... lupron... continuous birth control and on and on. The tests were insane... colonoscopies... cystoscopies..biopsy... the point I want to make is this: I kept asking my OB if this could be anything besides endo... my mother was diagnosed with endo and adenomyosis and I had all of the same symptoms. My OB assured me that he only saw endo on the lap and not enough to cause my horrible symptoms. To make a long story short... I got a 2nd opinion before the surgery and ended up having adenomyosis as well. Luckily, the treatments are the same-so I would have been at a hysterectomy either way.I did not take the decision lightly since I am 26 with no kids. Please be persistent with you OB- I still love my first OB like nobody's bussiness, he is the nicest and most caring man I have ever been treated by... but he missed the diagnosis that could account for my pain.Push for the tests that they don't want to pay for.... I finally got an MRI 2 days before surgery and it confirmed the adenomyosis.... for years I have been trying to get an MRI and could only get a CT scan that was not sensitive enough to pick it up (it didn;t even pick up the endo that was found on pathology for the hyst.) Please have happy and safe holidays and feel free to write me for anything... Thanks for all the support!
