Re: Getting pregnant and taking pain pillsFrom: Stacy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Dec 21 12:58:04 2004
First, pregnancy is no guarantee the pain will go away. Yes, I have gotten pregnant numerous times and have given birth to two beautiful daughters. It depends on what pain meds you are taking, how that might affect your fertility. Ibuprofen/advil is contra-indicated when TTC. I can't remember exactly why right now, maybe it makes the cervical mucous hostile to sperm or something along those lines. The pain itself may also hinder implantation. It depends on the level of your pain, but it just makes sense to me that if your body is busy dealing with extreme pain, it will not let a pregnancy happen. Endo is also associated with immune system problems, and many women have had a problem with antibodies fighting against the fertilized ova for various reasons. Sometimes all it takes is to have the endo completely excised to fix the antibody problems, sometimes it takes baby aspirin or heparin, or other medical treatments. anyway, the answer to your questions depends totally on your pain level, your immune system, the extent of your endo, and what particular meds you are taking. I would advise you to take care of the pain before you try to get pregnant based on my own personal experience, but it's really your decision to make.
