Re: To D.N. Re: frequent periods and sore breasts

There are lots of reasons that can happen. I am not a doc, so can't say exactly. Things like PCOS (polycystic ovaries), hormonal inbalance, stress, or some women just don't ovulate on a regular basis. If you don't ovulate, then you continue producing estrogen with no progesterone to balance it out. This causes the lining of the uterus to build up to the point where it can't keep it up and then it sloughs off. It can cause heavy, long or irregular periods. Also, the excessive estrogen can cause the breast tenderness.

If you always had regular periods and this is the first time this has happened, it might just be a fluke or stress. If it happens more often, you should probably talk to your doctor. Any chance you could be pregnant? I know it sounds like a weird question because you are having a period, but I have heard that some women do have bleeding and they can be pregnant. Especially since you have sore breasts. If there is a chance, might want to take a pregnancy test.

I hope this info helps. Talk to your doc. Best wishes, D.N.
