Re: painfull intercourse and periods even though I'm on birth controlFrom: Erin (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Nov 24 19:23:15 2004
And on the other side, my doctor doesn't understand why I am so shy and awkward about sharing information about my degrading sex life with him. Get a second opinion. Painful intercourse is called dyspareunia. Do a google search and read up on it. It's not normal, and any doctor worth his or her salt recognizes how important a good sex life is for a healthy marriage. Heck, isn't that WHY we get married? Well, maybe that's just me. And it's what drove me to the doctor's office to complain. As far as I know, I do not have endo, but I have been diagnosed with adenomyosis. As soon as I complained of dyspareunia to my doctor, he brought up adeno. Then he ordered an MRI. IMO, this is how a doctor should respond. I've read plenty of stories on this and other forums from ladies who've had to kiss a lot of frogs, so to speak. If it helps, my GP didn't do squat for me. I referred myself to a reproductive endocrinologist, but for an entirely different reason. He (RE) diagnosed me with PCOS, empirically. The recent MRI proved him right, both on the adeno and the PCOS. GPs are good for ear infections and sore throats, but the human body is too complex for them to know everything. Ditto for a GYN. Best of luck to you. *HUGS* Erin
