Re: lupronFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Nov 5 09:58:44 2004
I am one who has a good experience on Lupron. I am on my second round of it, first one was in 2001, and in fact, am going to get my next shot in about an hour. I do have some night sweats and hot flashes, but nothing extreme, just kind of annoying. For me, the pain from my endo goes away COMPLETELY while on Lupron and I tend to stay pain free for a year or more after stopping the shots. I do get a very sore hip from the injection, to the point I limp for a day or so. In 2001, I would also tend to get a bad headache and be queasy for a day or so after a shot, but this time that isn't happening. I get the three month injection so I don't fight the sore hip every month. In 2001, I did the first few months via a monthly injection to see how I would react. When I did fine, I changed to the three month injection. Now I just try to get the shots on Fridays so I have the weekend to recover from the sore hip and don't have to limp around at work. I do not seem to have any long term side effects either. Once I stop the shots, the hot flashes and sweats go away after a few weeks and don't return. I do make sure to take plenty of calcium while on Lupron since it does cause bone loss. (easy way to get calcium: 4 Tums a day, two in the morning, two at night). For me, it really is a miracle drug, so I am very lucky! I even lose weight, about 8-10 pounds. Everyone is very different though, so it is hard to know how you will personally react. Just be sure to insist on stopping it if you are having a hard time. It can take a month or so for you body to adjust to it though, so give it a little time before you decide if it is helping or not. If you have any questions or want to talk about it more, feel free to email me direct. Hugs and good luck! Amy Meyer
