Re: Anyone trying to get pregnant? or undergoing fertility treatment?

Hi There

I'm also trying to get pregnant and am desperately hoping not to have fertility treatment if at all possible so I can completely relate to the anxiety you feel.

I was given 3 options by the surgeon when first diagnosed with Stage 4 endo as very luckily for me fertility and not pain is my major issue. In view of my age (I'm 37 almost 38) the options given were to try naturally for 6 months, to have surgery to try to improve things or to go straight to IVF. My very understanding partner of only 2 years agreed to give the first option a try and amazingly I got pregnant after 5 months. Unfortunately I had an early miscarriage so after consulting with the fertilty Drs I decided to go ahead with surgery booked for the following month in the hope of helping things along.

So far we've had no luck since the op and are scheduled to begin IVF therapy in Dec/Jan. I'm still hopeful that we won't need to go ahead but having said that I've wanted children for as long as I can remember and would be prepared to do anything to have my own family. I'm reassured that a friend of mine in the same situation has just completed treatment and didn't find it to be as bad as anticipated. She's currently playing the waiting game to see if she is pregnant so fingers crossed!!

I've found it a little hard to stay positive when my period arrives each month but at least we know now that it has happened for us once already. My surgeon tried to tell me that women in my situation do get pregnant but I didn't believe him - he proved me wrong as miracles (even if short-lived) do happen!

One of the best things I think you can do whatever you decide is to find out as much as you can about how to maximise your chances of pregnancy during each cycle. I've found this to be really empowering and at least if we do end up needing medical help we know we tried our best first.

Good luck
