Re: Abortion and Endo link?From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Oct 22 12:28:45 2004
If you look hard enough you can find links between endometriosis and anything you choose. The fact is, nobody really can say with 100% certainty where endometriosis comes from and why woman A has it but woman B doesn't even though they have lived identical lifestyles, eaten identical foods, lived in the same town, drank the same water, breathed the same air, used the same soap, detergents, hygiene products, etc. etc. So, instead of reading all of these theories and trying to figure out what you did (or didn't do) to bring this "curse" (yet another theory) upon yourself, it is far healthier and more productive to just realize that you have this because you have this and focus your attention on not having it anymore or at least gaining some control over the symptoms of it. Yes, we all have the need and desire to do something so no other female has to suffer but there's not much we can do other than work with support groups and each other to bring enough attention to this so that medical science and research can get the funding required to really do some in-depth investigation into this. Something as complicated and varied as endometriosis is likely not caused by any one "thing" that can be exactly pinpointed as the one single cause. Most importantly, you probably did not cause this, nor did your mother, or grandmother and you will not cause your daughter to have this. Most of the women here and many more who are not here have found that it takes a combination of diet, exercise and medication to keep the symptoms under control. Adequate sleep is a must as chronic pain is very draining physically and most of the pain medications do induce drowsiness. Each woman is different enough that she must figure out which combination works best for her but there are some commonalities. Endometriosis sufferers often have the symptoms, if not a diagnosis of, IBS or diverticulitis. Following the diet instructions for those two conditions will most likely help ease the bowel symptoms, this does not mean you have IBS or diverticulitis. You just have to use your common sense and pay attention to how your current life details affect your symptoms, whatever you do that helps, do it more... whatever you do that hurts, stop doing it. Don't eat the foods that irritate your bowels, who needs the cramping on top of the endo pain? Don't use tampons if they are uncomfortable for you. Happy trails...
