New to Endo - HelpFor more information on symptoms and treatment of endometriosis visit www.EndometriosisZONE.org. From: Mel. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Oct 20 12:29:45 2004
One year ago last July, I became really sick - having nausea, loss of appetite, and diarhea. I also wasnt sleeping well - which brought on anxiety attacks. My general doctor thought I had a virus and IBS, but had me do a blood test - found I was anemic. So the search began to find out why I was anemic. Had all the tests including endoscopy, colonoscopy, etc. All the tests came back negative. So I just lived with having a virus and IBS. He also wanted me to see an OBGYN............ I just had laproscopic surgery last week. My OBGYN doctor said I have endometriosis really bad. He said he hasnt seen endo this bad since he was a resident. The endo has produced scar tissue that has attached to my bowel. Is this common? He said I will have to have a complete hysterectomy and that the surgery will be a really difficult/delicate surgery. Since the surgery is so difficult, he is referring me to another doctor that specializes in difficult surgeries for women - my OBGYN would assist. (Im making the consultation appointment today) My OBGYN doctor mentioned that there is a possibility if they connot "peel away" the scar tissue, that they would have to remove part of my bowel and then I would have to wear a bag until it heals. He mentioned the "specialist" may want to put me on Lupron for 4 months to shrink everything before I have the surgery. My OBGYN also mentioned that my illness a year ago last July and my IBS are all related. I am the type of person who is a worry wart (having cancer in my family). I have IBS and I am on medication for anxiety. So as you can imagine, I am an emotional wreck right now. I have been lucky as I have not experienced the severe pain that you can have with endo - as of yet, anyway. I have had some of the other symptoms. Would love to hear from anyone who has had similar situation and their outcome.
