anesthesia and laparascopy

Hi, Has anyone ever had a local or regional- epidural anesthesia for a laparascopy? I go in for my first laparascopy this week for endo and first every surgery and have been told I have a potentially difficult airway to manage for the endotracheal tube placement. They did not suggest anything but general anesthesia but I am very scared. They are aware of the situation but I am still concerned because I read that once the anesthetic is given and if they can't get the tube down within a short time you will either suffer brain damage or death within a short time. In other words - there is no waking you up once it is given and the tube can't be placed in the trachea. I thought maybe if I could remain awake for the procedure? Anyone have any advice or experience with this matter? As if I don't have enough to worry about with the endo and just the surgery overall- I fall in to the small % of people with a difficult airway.
