Re: bowel endo-to Kim

Kim,

I have endo on my bowels and have the following symptoms: loose stools all the time, diarrhea when on my period. Lots of pressure and pain in my rectal area, especially after sitting for a long time. Bleeding from my vagina when I strain to have a bowel movement, heavy "gushing" of blood sometimes after sitting for hours or riding in the car. My bowel and my uterus are always stuck together from scar tissue and when they are freed up during lap, all these symptoms go away for awhile.

I was considering hysto this year (held off and went for another lap and Lupron instead) and my OB/GYN also insisted I have a colonoscopy to rule out problems inside my bowel. I went through the colonoscopy in late December and nothing was wrong. I then decided in about May to hold off on hysto for now, but at least the colonoscpy gave me peace of mind and let me know my bowel issues are definitely endo related.

The colonoscopy is no big deal at all. The prep part of taking the laxatives is the worst part. The procedure is outpatient and mine was done in the actual Doctor's office. I was there for about a total of 3 hours. They put me in "twilight" so I was not completely under, but did not know what was going on, nor remember any of it. I did not have any pain when it was over. (I was afraid my butt would be sore). Slept the rest of the day away when I got home and was starving for food when I woke up. I was terrified of having it done and then when it was over, realized it was not the big deal I thought it would be. I was back to normal and at work the next day. Just felt dopey and kind of out of it for about 24 hours after the procedure, from the drugs they gave me.

Hope this helps! Feel free to email me direct if you want.

Hang in there and good luck! Amy Meyer
