Re: Luperon: Dangerous Side Effects???From: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu Sep 30 11:00:05 2004
Emily, I just want to share my experience, since you asked for advice. I am on my second time of Lupron and for me, I have not seemed to experience any long term side effects from it. (thank goodness!) I did the first course in 2001 and just started the second one a couple months ago. I do have the hot flashes and some night sweats, and an occasional mood swing, but nothing too hard to handle. I get so much relief from the Lupron (my pain goes away completely and the first time kept me pain free for over a year) that the trade-off of hot flashes, etc. is worth it. I do not gain weight either, I actually lose about 7-10 pounds. My bloated belly was gone within 3 weeks of starting this last round. I think my bcps make me retain a lot of water though, so maybe I lose it so quickly because I am not taking my pills when on the shot. The first time, my side effects went away after a month or two of stopping the injections, but the bloated belly came back when I restarted my birth control. I DO believe many women have experienced long term side effects though. I have read too much to think it cannot happen. It really does break my heart to read some of the stories women have gone through after taking it, and I count myself lucky to not have had it happen to me. Everyone reacts differently so it is hard to make a decision. I struggled with the decision for almost 3 years before giving in because I felt I had no other option. I would just continue to do your research and decide what you think is best for yourself. You can search the archives on the forum and find lots of posts on Lupron, some good, some bad. Good luck and hang in there! Amy Meyer
