Re: Endo /ColonoscopyFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Sep 27 07:27:56 2004
Were you told of any endo on the bowel? I know I have it on my bowels and experience the same thing you do, especially when I am on my period. I have lots of pain in that area too. The pressure of sitting for a long time can make me really hurt. Three laps have shown my bowel and uterus to be stuck together. Each time they are freed up during the lap, the symptoms go away for awhile. When it is really bad, I will often bleed from my vagina when I have a bowel movement, especially if I have to strain. (sorry if that is too much info!) The bleeding happens even when I am not having a period. About a year ago I switched OB/GYN's and my new one insisted I have a colonoscopy to be sure nothing else was wrong. (also because I was seriously considering hysterectomy and he considers a colonoscopy mandatory before a hysto). The colonoscopy showed no problems so I definitely know my bowel issues are from the endo. I just had another lap in June and am on Lupron (hoping to buy time and put hysto off a little longer-I'm only 33), so right now I have no bowel symptoms. I could immediately feel a big difference after my surgery. The pain in my bowel/rectal area was gone and no bleeding from vagina with a bowel movement. Doc did say that my bowel and uterus were stuck together again and he freed them up. Did you talk this with your OB/GYN or is he the one you didn't like? It might not hurt to have a colonoscopy to just be sure, provided insurance covers it. It is a simple procedure so you are only there for a couple hours total but it is still several thousand dollars. My Gyno referred me to a GI Doc so insurance paid everything but $100 copay. The prep the day before is not fun but I don't remember the actual procedure at all and felt fine after it was over. They gave me something to put me in "twilight" so I was not completely under but had no idea what was going on and remember nothing after they put the drug in my IV. Woke up in recovery completely dressed, which I apparently did myself! Was groggy the rest of the day and slept most of it. IF you want to talk more, feel free to email me privately. Hang in there and lots of hugs! Amy Meyer
