Re: cramping and lupronFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon Aug 30 07:38:18 2004
How long has it been since you had the shot? It can take your body several weeks, if not a couple months, to adjust to the shot and to totally shut off estrogen production. My Doc said that initially the ovaries get confused and produce a surge of estrogen, then figure out what is going on and stop producing estrogen. This initial surge can make you feel worse. Since endo is fed by estrogen, this initial surge will make the endo go crazy. For me, the first 3-4 weeks after the shot tend to be kind of rough, but I know to expect it now and just ride it out. One thing I do now is get a three month injection. My body seems to adjust better because the lupron stays in my body more consistently over three months than if I did a monthly injection. Something to think about. Also, I take birth control which seems to help me adjust to lupron better since my hormones are always at a steady state. I also found that this second time of Lupron for me is much easier than the first and I think it is because I have been taking the pill continuously for a couple years. Since my body was in a psuedo-pregnancy state from that, and in a low state of estrogen, the Lupron is hardly effecting me at all. The first week was really bad but now I feel great. Hope things get better for you. Feel free to email me direct if you want to talk further. Use my work email: ameyer@dbllaw.com Hugs! Amy Meyer
