Re: NO Lupron, NOW it's BCFrom: Tina (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat Aug 28 00:25:34 2004
I hear you. I had the same problem when I found out I had Endo. I had 3 doctors treat me like dirty because I was a 22 year old educated woman that was not going to just do what they told me to do. Only you know what is best for you. I too refused to take any further Lupron/Depo (I had both) non-stop for a year. I went through major side-effects (some of which I still have 10 years later). The hardest was weight-gain (now I can't loose weight for the life of me). I had a few years of relief with the BC. I did take a week off about every 3-4 months (just to allow my body a cycle). However, over the last 2 years, the BC was causing me more pain so I stopped them all together. My doctor did recommend Acupuncture and after 4 weeks of treatment (2 times a week) I had minimal pain (and the only time I had the pain was during my cycle). I continued it for 3 months and was able to go off the pain pills. Unfortunatley, it was 1 1/2 hour drive for me and recently became unemployed. I had to stop due to the long drive and the cost of the treatment. A lot of insurance will not cover the treatment. I would encourage you to try the acupuncture. It may work for you too. Regarding the surgery, keep looking for someone to help you. It sound like your doctor was intimated by you questioning him. Keep looking. One of the problems I've had is that most of the doctors have no idea what the pain is like and therefore they can't relate. Good luck and stay strong! Tina West
