Re: A Decision Was Made Today For My EndometriosisFrom: D.N. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat Aug 21 17:35:13 2004
Hi Nichole, My advise for your surgery is based on my own experience. First, I would recommend that you are completely bowel prepped prior to surgery. Not just an enema before, but a couple days of clear liquids, bowel prep liquid (mag citrate is probably one of the easiest - 1 bottle/ day for three days. ) Also includes an enemam I think the day of surgery and antibiotics. It is not the most pleasant thing to do, but if you have complications, it makes things much safer. Also, if your doc knows already that there is some problem getting all the endo out around your ovary, I would strongly recommend that you have a gyn oncologist surgeon either doing the surgery or at least assisting your doc. They are used to dealing with complications of the bowel and ureter. You don't want to have what happened to me and not have them get all of your ovary out. I have ovarian remnant syndrome and still have endo after having a hyst and supposedly both ovaries removed (one ovary removed at a separate surgery.) I agree doing it with a lapartomy is the way to go. That way they can directly see what is going on. If possible stay off HRT as long as you can. Eat right, take calcium supplements. Best wishes with your surgery and for a speedy recovery.
