Re: Has anyone else been told to do this? From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri Jul 30 10:11:27 2004
Hi Brittany-- I was on continuous birth control therapy for about 2 years. I started with continuous pills w. no breaks, but then I started having spotting, so I went down to having periods every three months. That worked for awhile, but then I started having spotting between periods, so I went to another doctor, who advised me to stay on the pill, but have regular periods every month since I hadn't had any new endo in 2.5 years. I have been having regular periods for the last year, and so far (knock on wood!) things are okay. I find that I have less pain with my period (I was having a LOT of pain like you described when I was on the pill continuously for more than 5 months at a time, along w. heavy, clotted periods). In fact, I can take Advil and the pain will go away, which was UNHEARD OF when I was first diagnosed w. endo. My doctor told me that some women cannot tolerate continuous birth control, so perhaps you should talk to another doctor about either going on a 3 month regimen, or having a regular cycle. Good luck and have pain free days!
