Re: 1st timer.....question about post laparoscopyFrom: Kim (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Jul 27 12:13:07 2004
Hi ... just wanted to reassure you this is normal. Take into consideration that you didn't eat prior to surgery+ pain medications (very constipating)+ immobility+ manipulation of organs (intestines etc) during the lap= gas and constipation. If it goes on you could call you doctor to prescibe stool softeners or if it is beyond that maybe an enema for relief. I know that sounds horrible, but I had to use this after my surgery... I now just request it to be prescribed with other meds after surgery to have it on hand just in case. If he can prescribe the stool softeners it helps to take one with the pain medications. Also helps to drink lots of fluids and walk around (although I know this isn't what you want to do now.) Takes a few days for the Co2 they inflate with to get out and stop causing discomfort.. the more you can get up out of bed and walk will help. Hope you recover quickly... KIM
