Laparotomy QuestionFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed Jul 21 11:06:11 2004
I had a laparoscopy a couple of weeks ago and the RE found stage IV/V endo...several adhesions as well as choc. cyst on left ovary. RE immediately scheduled me for another surgery - a laparotomy this time (in a couple of mnths - so can take lupron to decrease swelling/bleeding prior to). He wants to try to save left ovary, but not sure if he can. He hasn't mentioned it much, but I know that there is endo on the bowel area...the assisting doc at my surgery came out and talked to me about that - saying that I must have a lot of bowel issues from it (which I do). I have read many posts on other sites, etc from women who had a laparoscopy, found severe endo, and were automatically directed to IVF - not a more major surgery. My RE did not even mention the option of going straight to IVF. I've heard that my RE even has a reputation for pushing people to IVF...so i find this odd. Anyone out there have a situation like mine and have the 2nd surgery? I like my RE..and he is very reputable..but I am just wondering why it does not seem to be a common next step to have a laparotomy. Maybe it is common practice - not like I am huge expert. I'd just like to hear from someone else who went thru this! TIA!
