Viable Follicle Sizes and hCG shot givenFrom: Ann-Marie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Jul 20 13:20:30 2004
When I had my ultrasound, I had one follice that was 31mm (on day 20 of my cycle but no ovulation yet), and two 13mm follicles. I received 10,000 IU hCG and ovulated. My question is: What are the chances that all three follicles were released? (There were smaller follicles around 8mm.) Also, I was not on any fertility drugs (i.e., Clomid, Pergonal, etc.) when the ultrasound was done. Would this be indicative of a woman's body preparing more than one egg for fertilization? I am 31, and I've read that, as your age progresses without a childbearing history, the ovaries may prepare more than one follicle to increase chances of pregnancy.
