Just wanted to introduce myself to the forum and share my story. My name is Alicia and I have stage 3 endo. I was diagnosed april of 2002 by laparoscopy. During the lap, my obgyn removed all adhesions, scar tissue, visible endo from all areas except for those on bladder. After lap had lupron 3-month injection. Lupron was a miracle. For the first time in almost 10 years, I wasn't in pain all of the time and I could have intercourse without pain (my husband was particularly happy). It was wonderful to be pain free and the only side effects I had were hot flashes. Just before my second 3-month injection I became pregnant with my first child. It was a difficult pregnancy but I gave birth to a healthy baby girl a little over a year ago. I love my little girl and know I am deeply blessed as many with endo will never be able to conceive. I extend my deepest sympathy to all of these women. Three weeks after delivery, I began ortho-tri-cyclen. Horrible pain began along with ridiculous periods. I experienced extreme nausea and was constantly tired. Taking care of a newborn didn't help matters. I complained to my obgyn and she suggested switching to the patch because your body metabolizes the hormone differenly that way. I agreed to try it. Nausea subsided but pain and bleeding increased so much that I had my mother keep the baby while I laid in bed in agonizing pain. I called my obgyn and she told me to give it another month. I waited another month and told her that she had to do something. During an exam, she put me in a lot of pain and said she was pretty sure the endo had spread to the cul-de-sac area (which explained why it hurt to have sex again) and probably to my bowels (so maternal changes didn't cause the constipation and sudden bouts of diahrrea I had experienced since my daugher was 2 months old). She suggested another round of lupron. So she inserted a paraguard iud for contraception and we began monthly injections of lupron. The first month was hell, the pain was worse (which I didn't think was possible). The second month hot flashes set in but the pain subsided. By the third month, pain was virtually gone, though the lower gi problems have gotten worse. The lupron side effects also got worse: more hot flashes, mood swings, once beautiful hair is dull and lifeless, my long strong nails are brittle and breaking, I can't seem to get enough sleep...needless to say, I'm driving my husband absolutely batty! The a/c is blasting to the point that him and my daughter have to take off a few layers of clothes before stepping outside. I go for my fourth injection this Friday but I am thinking about stopping treatment. My obgyn is planning to do a laparoscopy later this fall. I am scared since my symptoms came back with avengance after the birth of my daughter. My grandmother had full hysterectomy and part of her bowel removed at age 35 due to endo (three live births and two miscarriages). My aunt had full hysterectomy due to endo at age 32 (she battled years and years of infertility and ended up childless). My mother had full hysterectomy at age 33 due to endo (three children and one miscarriage). I am only 22. I do not want to end up like my relatives though my obgyn says its inevitable and that my time will come fairly soon. She says she just waiting for me to say ok, let's do it. I don't know what else to do. I hate endometriosis. I'm just hoping to find someone out there that can relate to what I'm going through or someone who has any suggestions on other treatments.
