Meg, I feel for you. I had an open Lap (laparotomy) in November; same as you, after a ruptured ovarian cyst. The doctors tried the laparoscopy (navel + 2 other small incisions) and couldn't see, so had to open me up with full abdominal surgery. You probably have a 4-5 inch incision in the bikini line. It will hurt for a while, but in about a week you will really start to feel human again. Try to get up and walk around, pressing a small firm pillow or folded towel against the incision site. I did not walk around enough in the hospital and took a little longer to heal. Keep the pillow or towel handy for when your friends try to entertain you. It helps with the laughter. As far as getting out of bed, I found it was easier to roll over toward the edge and hang my feet off the bed before trying to pull/push myself up. I was not allowed to shower for 3-4 days, I think. And I am pretty sure it was longer for the bath. For the nausea, I tried to keep snacking on saltines, and always eat something with the percocets; the pills made me more nauseous. When I was back on food, I tried to take some tums before meals to calm the naseau so I could eat. You might want to try it. I know it hurts, but it DOES get better. There are lots of women out here pulling for you. GOOD LUCK, Christine W
