Re: pain and suffering

I was diagnosed with stage IV endo in February, 1991. My laparoscopy was converted into a laparotomy because my gyno said my surgery couldn't be done laparoscopically due to all the adhesions. A laparotomy is when they cut you open (like a c-section). The recovery is much longer than a laparoscopy and causes more adhesions. I spent three days in the hospital and six weeks at home. Two years later when I realized that I was in terrible trouble again with the endo I started to do a lot of research because I was absolutely terrified of being cut open again! I found out that different doctors have different levels of skill with the laparoscope. It depends on how much experience they have and how comfortable they are using it. Another thing is that many doctors won't touch the area in the cul-de-sac or intestines because it is difficult and they are fearful of puncturing the intestines. I would highly recommend you find an endometriosis specialist. Especially if you have stage IV endo. I went to Dr. Harry Reich and he removed all my endo/adhesions laparoscopically. Also, you want a doctor who removes your endo by excision, this is when they cut it out instead of burning it. When they burn it, it only removes the surface leaving the root to grow back with a vengence. You can read about Dr. Reich at http://www.adlap.com. But there are other specialists out there. Maybe you would ask on this forum for recommendations in the area that you live. Or you could find some at http://www.geocities.com/endometriose/endolinks.html or http://www.endoangels.com/links.html. I hope this is of some help to you. I have more websites if you are interested. Feel free to e-mail me personally if you want. Chris
