Re: pain and sufferingFrom: Rachel (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue Jun 29 15:50:38 2004
Stephanie, I'm sorry you're in so much pain. A laparotomy is a more severe surgery, where they will cut you from hip to hip. This is not done outpatient. The time you'd need off from work would be about 6 weeks. That's pretty much 6 weeks off your feet as much as possible. They do this surgery when they can't do what needs to be done with just a laparoscopy. You say you have stage 4, and from what I understand, that means you have endo in the cul-de-sac, and I'm pretty sure they can't get to that through laparoscopy. If I'm wrong, please let me know. Stephanie, are you comfortable with your doctor? I'm a little uncomfortable with your doctor telling you that you need a laparotomy without taking the time to explain what that is, leaving you clueless. Have you sought a second, third, fourth opinion? Remember, even in times of pain and desperation, you are still in charge of your body and what happens to it. You hire your doctor. Don't let yourself be bullied and forced into anything. Take care honey, and good luck. Feel free to email me privately if you need to talk.
-- Rachel
