Re: Endo or IBS?

Wow, that sucks. Many women with endo also have IBS, but endo can also cause bowel pain on it's own. I was diagnosed with IBS a few years ago after my colonoscopy came back negative for Crohn's or anything else. About 2 years ago, I started having really bad pain with ovulation and then had terrible pains in my left side during my period. I had an ultrasound to rule out ovarian cysts, etc and then got pregnant in April of last year. The pain went away for the most part so I didn't think too much about it. After I had my son in January, it came back and was worse than ever. I always thought it was IBS related so I went and saw my gastro. He asked me a bunch of questions and said it didn't seem like my IBS was flaring up because I didn't really have diarrhea issues (like I had in the past) and my pain didn't seem to be related to bowel movements. He thought it was a reproductive issue, perhaps endo. So back to my OBGYN. I went on the pill for about 6 weeks.. the first month I was on Yasmin and it was OK. The 2nd month he switched me to Seasonale and it was awful. I spotted and had cramps every day so I stopped after 2 weeks. The pain kept getting worse so I had a lap done 2 weeks ago. He didn't find any endo but I did have an adhesion and he said something about my appendix being in a weird spot. I have a follow up appt today, I truly do think I have endo because why else would the pain almost dissappear during pregnancy? Adhesions can cause cyclical pain but it doesn't seem like the pregnancy would help on that end.

Anyway, I think you need to find a new doctor. Ultrasounds and pelvic examinations are not diagnostic tools for endo. The only way to really find it is to have the lap. It's not so bad, I had mine done on a Thurs afternoon and went back to work on Tues. I could have gone back Mon but I didn't want to!!

Good luck to you and keep us posted!!!
