I would have the Lap first too. I had my 3rd Lap in about 12 years about 8 weeks ago. Before the Lap I was CONVINCED that the Endo was on my bowels this time b/c I had SO MUCH bowels problems. It had started as problems only for the first 2 days of my period, but turned into excruciating pain EVERY DAY. I was barely able to walk or sit up b/c the pressure and stabbing pain hurt so much on each side near the hip bone. Once I even felt something "tear" on one side when I coughed. I thought it might have even gone all the way thru the bowel wall b/c I thought I saw blood coming from there (but you know it's hard to tell when you're on your period). Anyway, had the Lap and shockingly to me I had NO ENDO on my bowels. I had cysts on both ovaries and Endo behind the left ovary among other places. Apparently, that was causing all my problems. I read later that the bowels are SO SENSITIVE that during a surgery, if the surgeon even "touches" the bowels, THEY WILL MOVE AWAY. That freaked me out but to me does explain why Endo sufferes have so much bowel problems. The ovaries are right over the bowels, so if they are leaking any blood, hormones, fluid from cysts etc., it's going to drip on the bowels. I'm sure that's what causes so much bowel spasms.

Read some of the back issues on this site regarding some of the natural approaches some of us have taken to help with Endo pain and bowel problems. Fennel and Chamomile work very well for me to sooth the spasms. You can buy them in capsule form or teas. If you need something stronger, Levin (prescrip) has helped me but tends to be so strong that you sometimes end up constipated. I'm also using Slippery Elm which was suggested by some women on this site and it does seem to help.

BTW: If you do have the Lap, make sure your doctor is well experienced in cutting or lasering out the Endo. Many are not, and will leave it or say they couldn't remove it from an organ without destroying the organ (like your uterus). There is a big difference is skill levels among doctors.

good luck!
