Re: Lupron Questions!!!

Kim, I have done Lupron once and am considering doing it again this summer to put off hysto a little longer, which for me, is coming someday. While not everyone does good on Lupron, and each woman reacts differently, I did pretty well. I did have hot flashes and night sweats, but those went away when I did add-back therapy the last three months. (I did 9 months of Lupron to get through my wedding, but the only way my Doc would let me do the last three months was with PremPro add back). I had a few episodes of mood swings, but nothing too severe, and I knew it was the Lupron making me feeling that way. I did not gain weight, in fact I lost about 6-7 pounds. That may be from not taking birth control while on the shots, as I think they make me gain a little weight.

I do not feel like I have had any long term effects from it either. I stopped the shots after 9 months, started back on my pills, and like clock-work, had a period 3 weeks later. I felt completely pain free and energetic again the whole time I was on the shots and for about a year or so afterward. For me, one of the worst things was the shot itself. It always made my butt sore, like when you get a tetanus shot, and it would give me a terrible migraine for about the first 24 hours. I found that the three month shot was better for this reason, and I would just always plan to get my shots late on a Friday afternoon so I had the weekend to feel better.

Hope this helps a little! Just hang in there. Everyone will react differently, but I wanted to let you know there are some of us who have had a positive experience on Lupron. Feel free to email me at work at ameyer@dbllaw.com if you want to talk about it in private.

Hugs! Amy Meyer
