Re: Spotting - CBCPs

I spot off and on and have been on continuous birth control for almost two years for endo. My spotting does not seem to be from the pills though. It seems more like bleeding that comes when I hav aggravated something inside. If I do a lot of yard work, exercise, or sometimes just lay wrong, I will bleed. I must do something that causes the adhesions to bleed. If you don't seem to be bleeding from something like that, you may ask for a different kind of pill. I have been on several bcp's (though not continuously) that made me have breakthrough bleeding. Each time my Doc would switch me to something a little stronger. I now take Lo Ovral and don't breakthrough bleed if not taking continuously.

As far as having a period on continuous pills: My Doc says I should force one every 4 months or so to keep things from building up. I can tell after about three months that I need to have one. I will start getting very bloated, endo pain gets worse, etc. Once I have a period, I feel better for awhile, although the periods themselves seem to be more intense. I don't bleed much but have bad cramps, PMS, migraine, nausea, and back pain. I guess my body is making me pay for not having one every month! Continuous pills have seemed to help the endo somewhat, but after a couple years, it is getting bad again. I have talked hysto with my Doc and have an appointment with him today to discuss my future. It is either going to be hysto, or I may ask for another lap and Lupron (did Lupron once already, have had two laps) to buy some more time before everything is taken out.

Sorry to have rambled! If you want to talk more about this, email me at my work address: ameyer@dbllaw.com.

Hugs! Amy Meyer
