Re: Questions about back and shoulder pain!!From: Anne-Marie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue May 11 05:38:35 2004
I've had persistent shoulder pain and lower back pain since a couple of months ago. I think thought that it was caused by being over zealous and flinging 15kg bumbells around in case of my shoulder and trying to do to many stif f legged dead lifts with my olympic bar. I used to recover really well from workouts, but gradually over the past year I have had injury after injury and took it as a warning sign that I needed to improve my diet and work at getting my bone density improved some. That and not going so hard with the weights. I dont see any reason why pelvic pain could not cause pain elsewhere as it can be quite stressful having pelvic pain two to three weeks in four as most of us do with this thing. I mean, if your getting pain, your basal cortisol levels (stress hormone) are naturally up and this does a few things: Suppresses sex hormones, so you can lose muscle mass and possibly are more prone to aches and pains and taking longer to recover from any sprains or strains doing stuff. Also it can suppress your immune system. I think in general thats when you can get run down and generally it doesnt take much to become tired and achey. What it could be of course is referred pain. I did wonder the other month why I seemed not to be recovering from workouts to well. My blood type dicates that my basal cortisol levels are higher than most other blood groups anyway, so I assume I need to work out less and take longer breaks to recover. That and destress and do activity's that keep my cortisol levels down. It's one of the reasons I hate the pain. I can cope with it at times, but it wears you down a little and the worry of what is causing it exactly I think can make it worse often and cause more stress. I think thats why more than ever you really need to use food as your medicine with this condition. That and alter your lifestyle so your less stressed in other areas of your life.
