Re: Adenomyosis and Pregnancy

I am 37. I have had Adenomyosis since I was 30 with the crippling cramps and excessive bleeding each month. It was diagnosed with a Laporoscopy. I have tried several birth control pills to alleviate the pain with no success. Lupron injections worked, but caused a 40# weight gain.

I wanted to have at least one natural born child before it was too late. My doctor wants me to have my uterus removed. I am leary of hormone replacement. So, I got pregnant. Conceiving was never a problem for me. I miscarried during the first trimester.

I didn't give up. I got pregnant again. Again, conceiving was easy. Pregnancy was not.

I got a positive AFP test and had an Amniocentesis to rule out an genetic abnormalities. The results of the Amnio came back normal. But the Amnio test caused me to leak alot of clear fluid about an hour after the test. I was hospitalized for 2 days and then on complete bedrest for another week. I resealed and my fluids replenished, so on with the pregnancy.

Since I had a positive AFP with no apparent reason, I went to non-stress tests twice a week in my 3rd trimester. Each one was normal. Baby was fine.

Then, I broke my water (with lots of blood) on week #32, or 8 weeks early. I went to my doctor and he sent me to another hospital that was equipted with a High Risk Obstetrical Unit AND a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. They wanted to keep me on bedrest for 2 weeks. I continued to bleed alot, so they decided to perform a C-section the next morning. The baby was breech and didn't have any fluid to turn around in.

They suggested a general anesthesia. After the procedure, the doctor told me he almost lost me on the table. I had a tremendous amount of blood loss. He said the surgery took twice as long. He had to make the incision twice as wide and he fought with my uterus to get the embedded placenta out of it. He said he almost gave me a hysterectomy right there. I wish he would have. He told me to NEVER get pregnant again.

That's OK, because now I have a healthy baby boy. He was 8 weeks early, so he only weighed 3 pounds 13 ounces and was 15 inches long. He is only 3 days old now and I can't wait until he is big enough to take home.

I hope that answers some of your questions.
