Hi, Faith,

I had this happen last spring and it was very confusing. If the tissue is gray/white it is not a miscarriage.

I'll save you my long story but I had the same thing happen. It started out as spotting and light bleeding, then stopped. After an exam, I started passing small pieces of pinkish tissue for a couple of weeks. Then, while I was continuing to wait to see my GYN, I had very bad back pain, similar to my back labor pains with my first child. Then I passed a baseball sized piece of gray/white tissue. I took it in to the doctor, for fear they wouldn't believe me. The pathologist and GYN came to the conclusion that it was a necrotic fibroid (dead tissue). I never before had been diagnosed with fibroids. I had just been examined 9 months prior for my annual check. This appeared out of nowhere.

I was sent to a GYN oncologist to be sure it was not pre-cancerous. She said it was not.

I have since come across a few others who have had the same thing happen. In fact, I keep in close contact with one who is still passing these fibroids.

You should be sure to see your doctor and have them check your white blood cell count. Often with this degeneration there is infection. That infection can become dangerous if left untreated.

I had to have a D&C to remove the thick tissue on my uterine walls; also for biopsy. Everything came back benign. I do still have a large mass in my uterine wall that has to be checked for growth periodically.

I think it may be adenomyosis rather than a large flat fibroid. It could be many tiny fibroids covering a large area also.

Feel free to email me (dbwalker@adelphia.net) if you want to talk more; or just post here and I'll check back.
