At Tue, 27 Apr 2004, vicxcol@hotmail.com:

I have undergone a three month course of Prostap (the commercial UK name for Lupron)injections to treat my 4 year history of endrometriosis and within such a short time notice the drastic side effects that the hormone treatment caused.

This is a story of good and bad....

The bad= The injection caused bone density had affected my hip (causing me to fall like an old person at the ripe old age of 23). Although I was unaffected by hot sweats and the other common side effects the migraines I experienced were bordering on intolerable. I felt genuinely unwell for the duration of the treatment.

The good= The injections ended six torturous months of heavy bleeding. But most amazingly by some fluke I managed to conceive shortly after the third injection and I am now 4 and a half months pregnant.

I am hoping the pregnancy will re-align my hormones back to what they should be and counterbalance any long term damage the drug may have done in such a short time. What worries me is what little is known about the drug's effect on the body long term becuase it is a hormone that will effect different people in different ways. So hurray for this site as I would be lost without the advice of so many long suffering women who research, helping and sharing their knowledge of the treatments- they fill in the gaps that doctors fail to do.

>>To answer your question from my opinion only...... yes it scares me to have just startd taking lupron but I think the majority of us have done are homework and are aware of the risks. I for one was givin the option of lupron or a hysterectomy and at 27 and no kids I went for the lupron. I also beleive that the effects one has may not be the same as others have. Everything has risks and side effects and we didn't choose this diesease so we take chances to get the results we have been searching for. Again, this is only my personal opinion of the matter. To be honest I had my first shot before I found this site and am so glad I didn't read all of these posts or I would have been terrified. Most times you only hear the bad because you are looking for support in the hard times. You will find a lot of happy endings from lupron but I beleive it all depends on your body and everyone is different. What works for one might not for others.
