Re: Ovarian endometrioma.....hysterectomy?????????????

I agree with Cici and would equally like to vent! Doctors who recommend hysterectomy for Endo are looking for an easy way out (for them, not you). All you need to do is read some back issues on here, and you will see many women who have had a hysterectomy and Endo STILL CAME BACK, especially if you have add back hormone therapy i.e. estrogen. It makes me so mad when I hear this as an option, or worse yet the only option presented! I went to 4 different doctors since last November regarding Endo and all but 3 presented Hyst as an option or told me I should consider it. Hello! I know I've had recurrences, but the minor laproscopic has worked for me, at least gave me relief for 7 years at a time. Why would I have a MAJOR surgery like Hysterectomy instead??? Just because I'm 40 and don't want to have kids, I should remove all my organs??? GRRRRR I wonder if the doctors had cysts on their testicles and someone recommended that they remove BOTH TESTICLES to "cure" it, if they would opt for that?? You now they'd run screaming in the other direction. I know that sounds ridiculous but it's the same thing only WAY more serious surgery for women.

I also agree there is SO MUCH more that your uterus, tubes and ovaries do for your body besides grow a baby (or grow Endo.) There are SO MANY other benefits we get and NEED from these organs. I think you could be trading one problem for a whole host of potential problems after Hyst. I would NEVER have a hysterectomy except to save my life from something like cancer.

Read some of the back posts on this site for natural options such as diet, herbs and natural progesterone. A lot of us have had some good results with these things. At least enough we're able to get to the point where we aren't considering removing important organs. Congratulations on quitting smoking too. Your body needs to be as healthy as possible to be able to fight this stuff off.

BTW: I too just had a lap about 5 weeks ago and my doctor did remove endo cysts from BOTH ovaries as well as other locations. It can be done but you need a skilled surgeon. Believe me, all of them are NOT skilled enough to do this surgery AND save your organs. That's why they suggest Hyst..... Easier for them (and more $$$). I would definitely interview additional doctors and READ, READ, READ. :-)
