Hi, Beth,

I have had the worst month yet with my endo pain. I have a Mirena IUS/IUD. The problem with using it, as with the NuvaRing, is that the hormones are "on site" so to speak. With the Mirena, the uterine lining is thinned by the release of levongestrel, which is great for your contraception and in reducing the amount of bleeding during your period. But it does not help the endo that is responding to the hormone change in your body throughout the month. That's why BCP or Depo Provera are recommended to help control the growth of endo. In other cases Lupron is suggested (that another can of worms).

Unfortunately, surgery is usually the only treatment that lasts any length of time. It is usually suggested that you use BCP or depo immediately following the surgery to prevent recurrence.

No one falls into any one category as far as endo is concerned. It's best to find a good endo doctor, if possible, and pursue the best treatment for you.

I'm right there with you. I'm looking for the best relief too.
